Lewis & Clark College

Continuing on the introductions to the college coaches that we will be meeting with and coming to see our members play on the Oregon College Experience.

For our Oregon College Experience, we are still looking to add the following positions, so if you have any friends or teammates that you could share this trip with, we would greatly appreciate it.

Currently Five (5) roster spots available

Need - two outfielders

Need - one first baseman/utility/catcher

Need - one catcher

Need - one infielder

Ideally these players can all pitch - (like to add 4 pitchers)

Here is the second of our college introductions regarding the Oregon College Experience -

Lewis & Clark College in Portland Oregon and their head coach Matt Kosderka. We will visit LC on Sunday July 1st at 9am during our Oregon College Experience. I have had a recent conversation with Coach Kosderka about our roster for the trip and after looking at this snapshot below, please send Coach Kosderka an email to introduce yourself to begin (or continue) the recruiting process with him. I talk with Coach Kosderka, as I do all of the coaches on this trip on a regular basis so be sure to reach out to him if you have interest in Lewis & Clark.

Conference – Northwest Conference

Nine (9) team conference where you play each team 3 times (one 3-game series) home one year and on the road the next. Winner of the conference tournament gets an automatic bid to the 6 team NCAA West Regional, where the winner of that advances to the NCAA D3 College World Series. Because this conference is one of the strongest D3 conferences in the country it is common to get two conference teams into the regional

  3. Linfield College (OR)

  4. Pacific Lutheran University (WA)

Personal – I have known Coach Matt Kosderka for 4 years, beginning while he was an assistant coach at Willamette University and now that he is the head coach at LC, he will be a mainstay on our tours because of the advantage in recruiting it gives these coaches. Coach Kosderka is a tremendous resource for us not only because he is the head coach at LC but because he is a D3 baseball player who was drafted by the Texas Rangers and had the opportunity to play professionally.

Facilities – Their baseball field is technically on campus but located just down the hill from the main campus and behind the law school. The Huston Sports Complex, which also has softball, has been evolving with each college experience we take players on. Our first year of touring LC, a new scoreboard was put in right center and eventually the batting tunnels were upgraded to two 80 ft, covered tunnels. During those years the Pioneers used molded plastic seats in the bleachers that were once part of the seating at the Kingdome in Seattle. It was very a "cool" look but In a recent renovation the plastic seats have been removed for safety purposes. The field now has transformed behind home plate seating into a spacious tiered wooden platform, giving fans a chance to bring their own comfortable chairs to sit in. It's a very unique setting, surrounded by trees and in the midst of thick Oregon forest.

Campus – Absolutely beautiful and scenic campus, with views of Mt. Hood and the city of Portland below. Located in the Southwest hills of Portland on a 137 acre wooded campus, the campus has free shuttles running to downtown Portland every hour until midnight or later (depending on the night of the week). Seriously no need for a car here, even though you feel like you are completely in the middle of a national forest.

History – Traditionally LC as struggled on the baseball field, I think that is mainly because of the merry-go-round of coaches over the years. Personally, I have witnessed seven different coaching changes during my time in this business, compared to the others in the area, that is HUGE! The college is very challenging academically and tends to bring in students with a strong academic transcript, although I have worked with students who have chosen LC with pretty average transcript so don't let that discourage you from proceeding.

Future – Under the direction of Coach Kosderka, I suspect the Pioneers will move up to the middle of the pack in the tough NWC conference because if his commitment to detail and working the process. He has a proven record of tremendous improvement while at Willamette, helping the Bearcats turn their program upward, so now it's his turn to do it for the Pioneers!
