Concordia University

Here is a college introductions regarding the 2018 Oregon College Experience - Concordia University in Portland Oregon and their head coach Rob Vance. We will visit Concordia Saturday June 30th at 9am during our Oregon College Experience. I have had a recent conversation with Coach Vance about our roster for the trip and after looking at this snapshot below, if you are on our trip, please send Coach Vance an email to introduce yourself to begin (or continue) the recruiting process with him. I talk with Coach Vance, as I do all of the coaches on this trip on a regular basis so be sure to reach out to him if you have interest in Concordia.

Personal – I have known Coach Rob Vance for nearly 15 years and like most of the colleges in Oregon, Concordia has been a main stay on each of our tours. He (or someone from his staff) will do a very thorough and professional tour, they will make themselves available before and after our visit for questions and will always be honest and fair in their assessment of you as a player and your opportunity to participate in their program.

Facilities – Their baseball stadium in right on campus and the windows from the library overlook the stadium where I have sat and enjoyed watching many peaceful innings. Although the stadium seating gives a very intimate setting around the infield diamond, the outfield in huge with sunstands (as they are called at Concordia) from the right field foul pole to dead center and a tough place to hit balls out of. Everything is turf, including the pitchers mound. The field is shared with women’s soccer in the fall and softball in the spring. Their hitting building is down the left field line where they have turfed cages, are able to throw, do agility work in addition to hitting. Down the right field line are the restrooms and concessions for spectators while at field level are the clubhouse for the baseball team and locker rooms for visiting teams and umpires.

Campus – Small campus setting is a very residential area, located just north of downtown Portland and very close to the Portland airport. Surrounding the actual academic and athletic facilities are the dorms or campus apartments so you are really never far from your next class, practice or any on campus event.

History – This is the 2nd year the Cavaliers have been an NCAA D2 member, having competed as an NAIA university previously. The first two years have shown the difference in physicality of the two associations at least in the Pacific Northwest and the Cavs have taken their lumps.

Future – Under the direction of Coach Vance and the increased funding & continued support to the athletic program, watch for Concordia to rise each year and eventually becoming a main stay at the top of the GNAC conference year in and year out.
